Basketball Recap: Sunlake's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Sunlake entered their matchup against Gaither on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Sunlake Seahawks took a hard 79-65 fall against the Gaither Cowboys. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Seahawks of the 72-56 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2021.

Several Seahawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Christopher Murray, who went 9 for 18 en route to 28 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Murray is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeremiah Brown, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 16 points along with five boards and three steals.

Gaither was led to victory by Asiah Perry and Josiah Manrow. Perry posted 21 points, while Manrow scored 21 points. The dominant performance gave Perry a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jayce Humphries, who earned 14 points.

Sunlake's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-4. As for Gaither, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

Sunlake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 73-62 win against Fivay on the 9th. As for Gaither, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 79-40 defeat against Blake on the 7th.
