The Cody-Kilgore Cowboys/Cowgirls will challenge the Arthur County Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Cody-Kilgore has given up an average of 43 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Thursday, Cody-Kilgore ended up a good deal behind Crawford and lost 39-22. The Cowboys/Cowgirls were down 39-14 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kaden McNare, who picked up 92 receiving yards and one TD, and also rushed for 59 yards on only six carries. He really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Knox Wobig, who gained 60 total yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Arthur County). They breezed past Minatare to the tune of 64-6 on Thursday. With the Wolves ahead 50-0 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Cody-Kilgore better keep an eye on Grady Gorwill. He was instrumental in Arthur County's win, rushing for 86 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries, while also picking up 34 receiving yards and one touchdown. Wyatt Glos was another key player, rushing for 49 yards and one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Arthur County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Arthur County's defense made their presence known, laying out Hunter Poor Bear six times. The heavy lifting was done by Colton Pilakowski and Camden Mironenko, who racked up four sacks between them. Arthur County received some extra help from Mironenko, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
The win got Arthur County back to even at 2-2. As for Cody-Kilgore, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-3.
Cody-Kilgore was taken down by Arthur County 60-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Cowboys/Cowgirls, Talan Storer (who rushed for 64 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 138 yards and three TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
