After flying high against the Lejeune Devil Pups last Friday, the Southside Seahawks came back down to earth. Southside was the victim of a tough 50-30 defeat at the hands of East Carteret on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Southside can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 364th, while East Carteret is ranked 106th).
Southside lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being I'Kiriyah Minor, who scored nine points along with six rebounds. Tamya Smith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Southside dropped their record down to 13-9 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for East Carteret, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southside will challenge Jones at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southside is facing Jones at the right time seeing as Jones is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for East Carteret, they will head out on the road to face off against Lejeune at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Lejeune focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 26 on Tuesday.
