Oak Grove is 5-0 against Central Davidson since September of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Oak Grove Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Central Davidson Spartans at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Oak Grove sitting on seven straight wins and Central Davidson on three.
Oak Grove put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season last Thursday. They breezed by Montgomery Central at home to the tune of 49-7. Given Oak Grove's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while Montgomery Central is ranked 286th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Karson Williams continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 201 yards and five touchdowns on only eight carries. Landon Craddock got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Central Davidson beat North Davidson 28-20 last Thursday.
Oak Grove's win was their seventh straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Asheboro and 1-8 Ragsdale (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.5% over those games). As for Central Davidson, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Oak Grove came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Davidson when the teams last played back in October of 2022, sneaking past 16-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oak Grove since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
