Centennial has been on the road for three straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Heartland Huskies at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th.
On Monday, Centennial was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-44 to the Bison. Centennial has not had much luck with the Bison recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Centennial's defeat came about despite a quality game from Alex Hirschfeld, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hirschfeld has scored all season. Ryan Richters was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Meanwhile, Heartland narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Scouts 37-35.
Heartland's win on Saturday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Thane Wetjen, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. Wetjen has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Alvarez, who scored 12 points.
Centennial's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Heartland, their win bumped their record up to 6-9.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Centennial have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 23 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Heartland struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Centennial strolled past the Huskies in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 43-24. Will Centennial repeat their success, or do the Huskies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
