Baseball Recap: Bellevue West Wins Going Away Against Park Hill South

Bellevue West lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Park Hill South, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Monday's game. The Thunderbirds were the clear victors by a 15-1 margin over the Panthers on Monday. The Thunderbirds might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by six runs or more this season.

Cole Madden tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Drew Grego was incredible, firing off three home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those three home runs gave him a new career-high. Jayden Ortez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

Bellevue West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .706. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Bellevue West has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Park Hill South, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bellevue West will take on Millard West at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Thunderbirds surely won't give up without a fight. As for Park Hill South, they will head out to challenge Central at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Panthers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
