The Triton Hawks will head out to challenge the Gray's Creek Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Triton will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Triton took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Harnett Central, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Hawks narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Trojans 5-3.
Addie Stanley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Stanley was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Bailey Johnson was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Sydney Bradham was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Triton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Gray's Creek got the win against Scotland on Friday by a conclusive 10-1. Considering the Bears have won eight games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Hailey McFarley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on August Kebort, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Sasha Arjona, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Triton's record now sits at 11-2. As for Gray's Creek, their record is now 9-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Triton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Gray's Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .416. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
