Ponaganset has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Tolman Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Ponaganset can now relate to. They received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 46-28 to Lincoln. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Ponaganset in their matchups with Lincoln: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Ponaganset got a solid performance out of Jason Pincince, who rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 21 yards and a touchdown on only two passes.
Meanwhile, Tolman missed an extra point against Johnston on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Tolman and Johnston were almost perfectly matched up, but Tolman suffered an agonizing 35-34 loss. Tolman's defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Tolman's loss came about despite a quality game from Darren Valentin, who rushed for 233 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.7 yards per carry, and also caught a touchdown. Valentin really tore up the turf during one magnificent 77-yard run.
Even if they lost, Tolman's defensive line still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Joseph Pimentel was especially locked on to Johnston's QB and sacked him twice.
Ponaganset's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Tolman, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
