The Mayfield Panthers will head out to face off against the Corinth Riverhawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Things were looking good for Mayfield after they put the first run on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville. The Panthers have struggled against the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Cubby Roth (C) was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Roth (C) wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Conyne, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Patrick Allen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Corinth couldn't beat Granville on Wednesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Riverhawks took an 11-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Golden Horde. The Riverhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sam Tangora was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Baker, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Mayfield's record is now 1-7. As for Corinth, their record now sits at 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mayfield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Corinth struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
