Even though the South Mecklenburg Sabres have not done well against the Charlotte Catholic Cougars recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. South Mecklenburg came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 63-52. Winning is a bit easier when you work as a team to rack up ten more assists than your opponent, as South Mecklenburg did.
It was another big night for Peter Moye, who scored 22 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Anderson Skelton, who scored 15 points along with three blocks.
When it comes to explaining why Charlotte Catholic lost, one person who can't be blamed is Drew Dinkin. Despite the final result, he scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dinkin has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eddie David, who scored ten points.
South Mecklenburg's win bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Charlotte Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg will face off against the Pumas at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Palisades focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Tuesday. As for Charlotte Catholic, they will head out on the road to square off against the Ravens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 244 points over their last four matches.
