McDonogh (Owings Mills, Md.) left no doubt that it is the No. 1 girls lacrosse team in the nation on Saturday when it routed No. 2-ranked Garden City (N.Y.) 20-9 during the Maryland-New York Challenge in Brooklandville, Md.
McDonogh, ranked No. 1 in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25, raised its unbeaten streak to 61, while handing Garden City its first loss in 56 outings.
Sophomore attacker Meghan Whittle led the winners with seven goals and one assist.
Garden City coach Diane Chapman told the Baltimore Sun, "They don't compare to any one we have played. They're No. 1 for a reason. They're in a league of their own."
