The Oconto Blue Devils will square off against the Coleman Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Oconto fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Kewaunee on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Storm by a score of 17-16. The loss was the Blue Devils' first of the season.
Meanwhile, Coleman won against Gillett on Thursday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Cougars didn't even let Gibraltar on the board, marking the Cougars' second-straight 15-0 shutout. The Cougars' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Makenzie Nowak was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Macy Nowak and Alyssa Kurth did most of the damage at the plate: Macy went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Kurth went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave Nowak a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aysha McPherson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Coleman was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Coleman's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Oconto, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.
Oconto beat Coleman 5-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2025. Do the Blue Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cougars turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
