Maplewood is 1-9 against Saegertown since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Maplewood Tigers face off against Saegertown Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Saegertown will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Maplewood extended their winning streak to four on Monday. Everything went the Tigers' way against Jamestown as they made off with an 18-4 win. The contest marked the Tigers' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Landyn Reynolds and Gavin Reynolds were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Reynolds pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Gavin pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Reynolds scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Gavin scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. What's more, Landyn posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Chase Koelle and Levi Willison did most of the damage at the plate: Koelle scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Willison scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Koelle is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Proper, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
Maplewood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Saegertown got themselves on the board against Cochranton on Tuesday, but Cochranton never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 10-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
William Shaffer made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over 5.2 innings pitched. Shaffer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two RBI.
In other batting news, Saegertown let Blake Leslie and Wyatt Burchill run wild. Leslie scored two runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4, while Burchill scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Everett Gardner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Maplewood's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Saegertown, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Maplewood has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like Saegertown struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Maplewood suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Saegertown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
