The Covington Buccs will take on the Miami East Vikings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
On Tuesday, Covington didn't have quite enough to beat Riverside and fell 7-6.
Ava Hartwig made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayda McClure, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Miami East had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Bees. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by eight runs or more this season.
Jacqueline Kadel made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Jaila Thurman was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Whitni Enis was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Miami East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in ten consecutive games.
Miami East's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Covington, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. However, it's not like Miami East struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Covington might still be hurting after the 12-3 defeat they got from Miami East in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Buccs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
