There's no place like home for the Betsy Layne Bobcats, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road on Friday. They escaped with a win on Saturday against Wolfe County by the margin of a single free throw, 56-55. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Betsy Layne has scored all year.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Betsy Layne to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Kidd, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Kidd's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Tanner Martin, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Wolfe County saw an underclassman step up: Corey Flinchum scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. Flinchum scored a full 40% of Wolfe County's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Creech, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Betsy Layne now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Wolfe County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Betsy Layne will challenge Martin County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kentucky (Martin County is ranked 84th, while Betsy Layne is ranked 107th). As for Wolfe County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hazard at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hazard knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Wolfe County likes a good challenge.
