Dylan Shawver made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jamon Ranck was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Levi Hunsinger also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Mount Union hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Southern Fulton, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Forbes Road on Thursday.
Like Mount Union, Southern Fulton also got a great game from a two-way player: Colt Mann. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mann has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Southern Fulton got a big performance out of Joel Fitz, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jett Burger, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Southern Fulton pushed their record up to 16-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Mount Union, their record now sits at 16-4.
Both Mount Union and Southern Fulton just can't seem to miss. The Trojans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Southern Fulton struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.7 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
