Basketball Recap: Jessiah Casey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica over Capistrano Valley Christian

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica lost against Capistrano Valley Christian back in April of 2021 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica Seawolves took a 74-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Seawolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 432nd, while the Eagles are ranked 188th).

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jessiah Casey, who went 10 for 25 on his way to 27 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Casey a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Darren Awili, who posted eight points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Leading Capistrano Valley Christian to victory were Michael Ahern and Matthew Ahern. Michael went 8 of 11 en route to 25 points, while Matthew went 7 for 14 on his way to 24 points. Michael's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Benjamin Makelela, who put up six points in addition to 12 boards and five assists.

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. As for Capistrano Valley Christian, their victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4.

Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica has already played their next contest (against Milken), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Capistrano Valley Christian has already played their next game, a 91-46 win against The Webb Schools on the 16th.
