Two dominant signal callers in Austin Carlisle and Jordan Reaves are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ridge Point Panthers will take on the Lamar Texans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ridge Point knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Lamar likes a good challenge.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Ridge Point had no problem doing just that on Friday. They secured a 49-44 W over Tompkins. Given Ridge Point's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 46th, while Tompkins is ranked 181st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Carlisle was a one-man wrecking crew for Ridge Point as he threw for 297 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes, and also rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown. Ashton Bethel-roman was in the mix too, providing Ridge Point with two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Lamar stacked a 11th blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jersey Village 63-0 at home. The victory was just business as usual for Lamar, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Lamar's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Reaves, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Chaseston Guidry, who rushed for 58 yards and two touchdowns.
Ridge Point's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Lamar, their victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Ridge Point has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 411.2 total yards per game. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've been even better at 461.5 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
Ridge Point didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Lamar in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, but they still walked away with a 14-10 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ridge Point since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
