The Hasbrouck Heights Aviators will head out on the road to face off against the Teaneck Highwaymen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Hasbrouck Heights is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.1 runs per game this season.
Hasbrouck Heights barely beat Elmwood Park the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Aviators were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Crusaders on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Aviators.
Maddy Connelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kailen Peterson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Ali Monchino, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Teaneck won against Cliffside Park on Wednesday with six runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Highwaymen beat Bergenfield by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 6-4. The game was the first time the Highwaymen have beaten the Bears on their field since April 5, 2017.
Olivia Rottner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Leanna Guerrero was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Adelyn Perez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Teaneck kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.
Teaneck has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Hasbrouck Heights, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hasbrouck Heights has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .505. However, it's not like Teaneck struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hasbrouck Heights came out on top in a nail-biter against Teaneck in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Aviators since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
