LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Windham's Jamie Cleasby, Mt. Morris' Meranda Euchlin, King George's Ashleigh Nalls, Estill County's McKeely Muncie and Alhambra's Briana Perez have been named MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for contests played May 30-June 5.
East Region – Jamie Cleasby (Windham (N.H.) HS)Cleasby was stellar in the circle for the Jaguars in a pair of games for the Jaguars last week. The senior hurler tossed a no-hitter with 15 strikeouts and one walk in a 2-0 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas. She followed that with a four-hit shutout versus Trinity. In that triumph, she struck out 15 and did not walk a batter. For the week, she was 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA, 30 strikeouts and held opponents to a .083 batting average.
North Region – Meranda Euchlin (Mt. Morris (Mich.) HS)Euchlin was a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored for the Panthers last week. She started the week with a 2-for-2 performance against Birch Run in which she accounted for all four runs in a 4-3 victory with three RBI and a run scored. She knocked in a run and scored during an 18-0 rout of Northwestern. The senior captain closed out the week with a 4-for-4 outing against Clio.
South Region – Ashleigh Nalls (King George (Va.) HS)Nalls played a key role in King George reaching the 4A Region title game. The junior fired a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over Grafton in the semifinals, fanning 10 batters. She also picked up a win in a quarterfinal matchup with Dinwiddie. The junior hurler did not allow an earned run, struck out seven and walked one in a 3-1 victory. She also chipped in offensively with a two-run home run.
South Central Region – McKeely Muncie (Estill County – Irvine, Ky.)Muncie was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 26 strikeouts in three postseason wins for Estill County. The highlight of the senior's week was a five-inning perfect game against Jackson County in which she struck out 10 of 15 batters in a 10-0 quarterfinal win. Muncie added two complete-game efforts, including a two-hit shutout against Perry County Central in the 14th Region semifinals. In that contest, she struck out nine, walked two in the triumph. Muncie capped off her week with a complete-game win over Wolfe County. She allowed an unearned run and struck out seven in the regional final. At the plate, Muncie went 5-for-9 with a double and four runs scored in the three contests.
West Region – Briana Perez (Alhambra HS - Martinez, Ca.) Perez was 3-for-5 with a home run five RBI and four runs scored helping Alhambra to wins over Carondelet and Newark Memorial. The junior captain knocked in two runs as she went 2-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases in the victory over Carondelet. Perez followed that with a three-run home run versus Newark. She also scored three times and walked twice.
