The South Eugene Axe had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They walked away with a 64-57 victory over Sheldon. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead South Eugene to victory, but perhaps none more so than Levi Hawes, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of koen thurman, who scored ten points.
South Eugene pushed their record up to 10-7 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.8 points per game. As for Sheldon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Eugene's road trip will continue as they head out to face Roseburg at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th. Roseburg presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than South Eugene in Oregon (Roseburg is ranked 34th, while South Eugene is ranked 85th). As for Sheldon, they will head out on the road to challenge Grants Pass at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Grants Pass and Sheldon are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
