Basketball Recap: Rocky River Now 5-1 over Last Six Games

John Hay came into Monday's game looking for another win against Rocky River, but Nora Bruder wouldn't allow it. The Rocky River Pirates walked away with a 52-40 win over John Hay on Monday thanks in part to Bruder, who went 8 of 17 on her way to 24 points. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Lang, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played.

Despite the loss, John Hay saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carly Fisher dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Those ten boards set a new season-high mark for Fisher. Anaiyah General was another key player, putting up seven points along with ten boards and four steals.

Rocky River is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for John Hay, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rocky River will venture away from home to challenge Bay at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rocky River is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.7 points per game this season. As for John Hay, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Glenville at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. John Hay also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 52.5 points per game.
