Westerville South had lost five games straight , but after bumping their record up to 2-5 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. Everything went their way against the Westland Cougars as they made off with a 14-1 win. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Aubrey Paul made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Maci Minister was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Delaney Weimer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Westerville South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westland only posted a batting average of .211.
As for Westland, they dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly 13 runs.
On Westland's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Payton Justice, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Westerville South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, an 11-0 loss against Hilliard Davidson on the 12th. As for Westland, they have also already played their next game, a 14-0 defeat against Worthington Kilbourne on the 11th.
