Birmingham has won three straight games at home, while Granada Hills Charter has won three straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Monday. The Patriots will welcome the Highlanders at 3:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Birmingham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Cleveland 21-4 on Wednesday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
Annabella Venegas spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Birmingham got a massive performance out of Jazmine Olmos, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Olmos has posted since back in March. Tori Torrez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Birmingham was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .513. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Granada Hills Charter made easy work of Taft on Friday and carried off an 8-2 win.
The team relied heavily on Elysse Diaz, who went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Lainey Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Granada Hills Charter is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Birmingham, they now have a winning record of 9-8.
Birmingham might still be hurting after the 13-2 defeat they got from Granada Hills Charter when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will the Patriots have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
