Softball Recap: Fivay Sets Scoring Season-High Against Bishop Mclaughlin Catholic

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fivay). They blew past the Bishop McLaughlin Catholic Hurricanes 23-7 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won seven in a row.

Danna Sleeman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in February.

In other batting news, Abby Wojcik and Janie Badu did most of the damage at the plate: Wojcik went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and four runs, while Badu went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Those four runs gave Badu a new career-high. Sofia Torres Gutierrez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Fivay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .737. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fivay's win bumped their record up to 6-11. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-9.

Looking ahead, Fivay will challenge Pasco at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bishop McLaughlin Catholic, they will host Hernando Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
