The Montrose Rams will head out on the road to face off against the Durand Railroaders at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Durand took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Montrose, who comes in off a win.
Montrose took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with an 18-15 win over Caro.
Mya Wiggins was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Emma Sjobolom also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Montrose kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.2.
Durand couldn't beat Ovid-Elsie on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the fourth inning. The Railroaders fell 11-8 to the Marauders. The defeat continues a trend for the Railroaders in their meetings with the Marauders: they've now lost eight in a row.
Hayli Pugh made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of MaKenzie Jones, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Montrose is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Durand, their loss dropped their record down to 6-9.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montrose hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .337. However, it's not like Durand struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Montrose's way against Durand in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Montrose made off with a 15-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
