After seven games on the road, Lake Mead Academy is heading back home. They will take on the Democracy Prep Agassi Campus Blue Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Mead Academy posted their biggest victory since December 5, 2023 on Tuesday. They blew past GV Christian, posting a 79-44 victory on the road. Given Lake Mead Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while GV Christian is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lake Mead Academy found their leader in underclassman Matthew Cummins jr, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 assists. That's the first time this season that Cummins jr posted eight or more assists. Gavin Rhodes was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Democracy Prep Agassi Campus scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Cristo Rey St. Viator at home to the tune of 83-6. The win was familiar territory for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus who now have three in a row.
Democracy Prep Agassi Campus can attribute much of their success to Abdul Alkiswani, who went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 2 assists. That's the first time this season that Alkiswani scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Tai Coleman, who scored 14 points.
Lake Mead Academy's win bumped their record up to 12-4. As for Democracy Prep Agassi Campus, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-4.
Lake Mead Academy couldn't quite finish off Democracy Prep Agassi Campus when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 65-62. Can Lake Mead Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
