Sandia is a perfect 10-0 against Eldorado since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Matadors will face off against the Eagles at 10:00 a.m. Sandia knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully Eldorado likes a good challenge.
On Saturday, Sandia got the win against Manzano by a conclusive 17-1. The Matadors haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Lola Valentin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, Faith Wersonick was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2025. Destiny Romero was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Sandia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .593. They are 11-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The home team had won the previous two meetings between Eldorado and La Cueva, and La Cueva kept the tradition alive. The Eagles came up short against the Bears on Saturday, falling 17-2.
Eldorado saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gianna Medina Vigil, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI.
Sandia's record is now 13-8. As for Eldorado, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.
Eldorado's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Sandia has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Eldorado, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Sandia's sizable advantage in that area, the Eagles will need to find a way to close that gap.
Sandia beat Eldorado 4-0 in their previous matchup back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Matadors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
