Collinsville is 0-6 against Highland since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Collinsville Kahoks will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Bulldogs at 8:30 p.m. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Collinsville can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent match on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 51-22 victory over Belleville East at home. The win was just what Collinsville needed coming off of a 71-30 loss in their prior matchup.
Collinsville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Talesha Gilmore out in front who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks. Gilmore has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was CARSYN MOAD, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Meanwhile, Highland had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Marquette Catholic with a sharp 56-31 win. Given Highland's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Marquette Catholic is ranked 478th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Collinsville now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Highland, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Collinsville, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 47-28 loss to Highland in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Collinsville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
