Canton is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing at home against the Mabank Panthers at 6:30 p.m. Canton's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Mabank's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Canton's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Athens as Canton made off with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kai Hudson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single hit, the first time she has blanked an opponent over her last six contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Chloe Howe was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mya Wheeler, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Canton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .591. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Mabank was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 18-7 to Brownsboro.
Trinity Mixon and Erin Ottmo did some serious damage despite the final result: Mixon scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Ottmo scored two runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Davis, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Canton has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. Mabank's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Canton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Mabank struggles in that department as they've averaged .411. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Canton's way against Mabank in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Canton made off with a 15-0 win. Does Canton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mabank turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
