The Grapevine Mustangs were the 48-40 winner over the Colleyville Heritage Panthers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Grapevine fell to Colleyville Heritage 47-42. While losing is never fun, Grapevine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 550th, while Colleyville Heritage is ranked 75th).
Despite the loss, Grapevine saw an underclassman step up: David Coe scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Matthew E woodcock was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 14 rebounds and three blocks.
Tristan Strength was his usual excellent self, scoring 27 points along with three blocks and two steals for Colleyville Heritage. The team also got some help courtesy of Cash Gardner, who scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Grapevine has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-17 record this season. As for Colleyville Heritage, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-5 record this season.
Grapevine will look to defend their home court on Friday against Birdville at 7:00 p.m. Birdville is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. As for Colleyville Heritage, they will square off against Denton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
