The Hastings Tigers and the Waverly Vikings will round out the year against one another at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Hastings' recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 47-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Bennington. Hastings has not had much luck with Bennington recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Meanwhile, things could have been worse for Waverly, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 55-40 loss to Norris on Friday. While losing is never fun, Waverly can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Norris is ranked 13th).
Waverly's loss came about despite a quality game from Keaton Rine, who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Rine scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nolan Maahs, who scored eight points.
Hastings now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Waverly, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-5.
Hastings came up short against Waverly when the teams last played back in February, falling 57-48. Can Hastings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
