Jackson Walsh tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Grant Husky was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Mason Dratfinsky, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Meanwhile, while it was Central Catholic who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was North Hills who put up more. The Vikings fell just short of the Indians by a score of 3-1. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Central Catholic also got a good showing from Liam Pekarsky, who pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. That's the fewest hits Pekarsky has allowed since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Reece Hankinson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those stolen bases marked the first that he snagged this season.
North Allegheny's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.75 runs across that stretch. As for Central Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
North Allegheny's speedy runners might be the difference in Monday's game. The Tigers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Central Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will North Allegheny continue to outrun the ball?
North Allegheny took their victory against Central Catholic when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-3 score. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
