The New Mexico School for the Deaf Roadrunners struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Legacy Academy Silverbacks had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. New Mexico School for the Deaf took a serious blow against Legacy Academy, falling 57-13. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for New Mexico School for the Deaf in their matchups with Legacy Academy: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, New Mexico School for the Deaf had strong showings from Angelique Quinonez, who scored two points along with six blocks and five rebounds, and Lacey Gilpin, who scored three points. It was the first time this season that Quinonez posted two or more blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Legacy Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Briley Boll, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Boll hasn't dropped below ten rebounds for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cheyenne Snoddy, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 steals.
New Mexico School for the Deaf's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Legacy Academy, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Mexico School for the Deaf will challenge Jemez Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Legacy Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Coronado at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coronado has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
