Bishop Timon-St. Jude scored a stunning upset when it knocked off St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, 17-14. At the time, the Marauders were ranked eighth in the state, while the Tigers were 88th.
The biggest upset of the week belonged to St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, who took down eighth ranked St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, 17-14.
Dennis Gilbert's team's dynamic duo of Dennis Gilbert Jr. and Tyshawn Stepney proved tough for Bishop Timon-St. Jude to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Gilbert Jr. threw for 42 yards and Stepney had 33 yards receiving. Mason Schulefand helped St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute's passing attack out by catching one ball for nine yards.
Anthony DiFrancesco was the most productive running back in Monsignor Martin this week. He ran for 128 yards on 28 carries as Cardinal O'Hara lost to Al Monaco's team. Ryan Dempsey also contributed to the rushing game with 14 yards on the ground.
Canisius's Tyler Mascio and Denzel Benton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Mascio has thrown for 1135 yards this season, while Benton, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 24 catches for 534 yards. DiFrancesco from the Hawks leads the league in rushing with 1045 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute takes on St. Mary's. The Marauders' offense has recorded 233 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Lancers have permitted only 111 on the year.
A big matchup in Monsignor Martin this week will be when the Crusaders take on the Tigers. Canisius is in first place, while Bishop Timon-St. Jude is in third place.
St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after losing to the Tigers. The Marauders had been ranked eighth, but fell to 31.
