Basketball Recap: Southridge Piles Up the Points Against North Miami Beach

There's no place like home for Southridge, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Monday. They blew past the North Miami Beach Chargers 50-19 on Wednesday. The Spartans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 24 points or more this season.

Southridge's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sakura Barnes, who went 8 for 10 on her way to 18 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals. Barnes is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Emily Jean-Glaude was another key player, going 5 of 7 en route to 16 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Southridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Miami Beach only racked up one assist.

Despite the loss, North Miami Beach saw an underclassman step up: freshman Serena Volcy posted nine points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Southridge pushed their record up to 10-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.0 points per game. As for North Miami Beach, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-6.

Southridge will be taking part in a tournament against North Miami at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. North Miami is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.1 points per game this season. As for North Miami Beach, they will head out on the road to square off against Coral Gables at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. North Miami Beach's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Coral Gables' offense will have their work cut out for them.
