The Leavitt Hornets will square off against the Gardiner Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Leavitt will be strutting in after a win while Gardiner will be coming in after a loss.
Leavitt's hitters will try to repeat the strong performance they gave on Wednesday, when they got past Medomak Valley's usually-dominant pitching crew. The Hornets came out on top against the Panthers by a score of 11-6.
Ryder Sawyer-Brown and Trent Holst made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sawyer-Brown pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Holst struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Sawyer-Brown also tossed a walk, which is notable because Leavitt is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-6 otherwise. At bat, Sawyer-Brown got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Holst went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Holst has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Marquis, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Leavitt is 2-1 when Marquis posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Nick Mellen, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Gardiner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Lincoln Academy. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.
Gardiner saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dillon Farnham, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Leavitt's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Gardiner, their loss dropped their record down to 6-8.
Gardiner's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Leavitt has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Gardiner, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will Leavitt keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
