The Taylor Wildcats will head out to face off against the Crescent City Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Taylor's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They blew past Peniel Baptist Academy 15-0. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Alex Ramos and Chase Heimbach made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ramos pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Heimbach tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Taylor is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. At bat, Ramos scored two runs and stole Two bases., while Heimbach scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micah Ritch, who scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Jackson Harcus, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Crescent City came out on top against Halifax Academy on Tuesday by a score of 17-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Like Taylor, Crescent City also got a great game from a two-way player: Marcus Pates. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Pates gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Crescent City got a big performance out of Andrew Roosa, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. What's more, Roosa posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Jake Robinson was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Crescent City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Crescent City's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7. As for Taylor, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Taylor has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crescent City struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Taylor's way against Crescent City when the teams last played back in February, as Taylor made off with a 13-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Taylor since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
