After a string of three wins, the Rosemont Wolverine's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were the victim of a rough 77-51 loss at the hands of Union Mine. Rosemont was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-22.
Rosemont's loss came despite strong showings from Ja'Monte Cole and Nick Wafula. Cole almost dropped a triple-double on 13 points, 14 rebounds, and nine assists, while Wafula scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Cole posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Connor Irion, who scored five points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Union Mine was led to victory by Nate Sweet and Isaac Zmerzlikar. Sweet scored 22 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Zmerzlikar dropped a double-double on 20 points and 24 rebounds. Sweet has been hot recently, having posted 22 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Otte, who scored ten points.
Rosemont's defeat dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Union Mine, their win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 23-2.
Rosemont will head out on the road to take on the The Pride at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Bradshaw Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday. As for Union Mine, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. El Dorado is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
