Sulphur Bluff and Bloomburg are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but not for long. The Sulphur Bluff Bears will be home for the holidays to greet the Bloomburg Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Sulphur Bluff is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
On Tuesday, Sulphur Bluff had to suffer through a rough 53-21 loss at the hands of Saltillo. While losing is never fun, Sulphur Bluff can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1220th, while Saltillo is ranked 338th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Zaylee Peyton, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Emerson Fite, who scored eight points along with 11 rebounds.
Bloomburg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season. They breezed by Sulphur Bluff on the road to the tune of 49-22. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 31-9.
Sulphur Bluff has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for Bloomburg, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.
Sulphur Bluff took a serious blow against Bloomburg in their previous meeting on Saturday, falling 49-22. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Sulphur Bluff was down 31-9.
