Two dominant signal callers in Lane Sceals and Tayt Snellgrove are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Deerfield-Windsor Knights will head out to face off against the Valwood Valiants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Deerfield-Windsor will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
On Friday, Deerfield-Windsor was able to grind out a solid win over Tiftarea Academy, taking the game 21-13. The 21-point effort marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Gabe Daniel was his usual excellent self, picking up 129 receiving yards, while also punching in one TD on the ground.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Deerfield-Windsor proved: they limited Tiftarea Academy to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. Deerfield-Windsor's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Anthony Powell, Luke Ivey, and Cross Mitchell, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Tiftarea Academy's side was Powell, who picked up a sack and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Valwood never let their opponents score on Friday. They breezed past Terrell Academy to the tune of 44-0. The Valiants haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Valwood's win came from a few key players Deerfield-Windsor will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Asher Wells, who rushed for 78 yards on only seven carries, and also threw for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Valwood also got a significant boost from Brycen Wetherington, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 99 yards.
Deerfield-Windsor's record now sits at 8-0. As for Valwood, their record is now 5-2.
Deerfield-Windsor didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Valwood in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 19-15 win.
