Skyview is 2-8 against Bishop Kelly since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hawks will welcome the Knights at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Thursday, Skyview got the win against Caldwell by a conclusive 10-1. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won seven in a row.
Makenna Shamy spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Makayla Lytle was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Bittinger, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Skyview kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 6-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Bishop Kelly entered their tilt with Emmett on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They blew past the Huskies 17-1.
Allie Warren and Lauren Fettic made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Warren tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Fettic struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Warren went 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Fettic went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other batting news, Bishop Kelly let Olivia Watt and Julia Baerlocher run wild. Watt went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Baerlocher went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Watt has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gracie Cammann, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Bishop Kelly's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Skyview, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Skyview hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Bishop Kelly struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.3 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
