The Faith Christian Eagles will square off against the West Central Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Faith Christian has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while West Central will arrive with six straight victories.
Faith Christian made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Tri-County, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Eagles fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 50-48 on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (40), the Eagles still had to take the loss.
Meanwhile, West Central took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 52-6 win over South Newton. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by 26 points or more so far this season.
Faith Christian better keep an eye on Drea Villarreal. He was instrumental in West Central's win, rushing for 90 yards and four scores, while also picking up 33 receiving yards. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Villarreal a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Huber, who threw for 121 yards and one TD while completing 85.7% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something West Central proved: they limited South Newton to a paltry -0.1 yards per carry. While three picked up at least six total tackles, Villarreal stood above the rest. He rushed for 90 yards and four touchdowns, and also picked up 33 receiving yards. West Central didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.2.
West Central's defense didn't let Lyle Harrington, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Landon Hughes was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. West Central received some extra help from Ezra Rodriguez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
West Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Faith Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.
Faith Christian was dealt a bruising 42-3 defeat at the hands of West Central in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Eagles were down 22-0.
