The Weld Central Rebels had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They snuck past Brush with a 42-36 win on Saturday. The win was just what Weld Central needed coming off of a 69-21 loss in their prior contest.
Weld Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Riley Phelps, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazlyn Ontiveros, who scored 14 points along with three steals.
Several Beetdiggers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brisa Aguirre-Garcia, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Aguirre-Garcia has scored all season. Michelle Headley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds.
Weld Central's win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-7. As for Brush, they bumped their record down to 2-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
Weld Central will be playing at home against Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brush's road trip will continue as they head out to face Ellicott at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Ellicott is ranked 237th, while Brush is ranked 236th).
