In what's become a running theme this season, the St. Anne's-Belfield Saints gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They really took it to St. Margaret for the full four quarters, racking up a 84-47 victory on the road. With St. Anne's-Belfield ahead 48-24 at the half, the game was all but over already.
Several Scotties players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Paula Carrillo, who scored 16 points. Another player making a difference was Ilona Syzdek, who scored 13 points.
The victory was the fourth in a row for St. Anne's-Belfield, bringing their record for this year to 11-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.5 points per game. As for St. Margaret's, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.
St. Anne's-Belfield won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Gators at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. Saint Gertrude will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Saints are ranked ninth). As for St. Margaret's, they will head out on the road to square off against the Saints at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. St. Catherine's will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
