The Nottoway Cougars pushed their score all the way to 42 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Prince Edward County. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (32), Nottoway still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Nottoway saw an underclassman step up: Anton Carter jr. rushed for 218 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 carries. Carter jr. is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. D'Aunte Watson was in the mix as well, providing Nottoway with two touchdowns.
Nottoway are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Buckingham and 8-2 Lunenburg Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.7% over those games). As for Prince Edward County, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.
Nottoway will be playing in front of their home fans against Randolph-Henry at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Randolph-Henry is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Prince Edward County, they will head out on the road to face off against Cumberland at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Cumberland is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
