The Dawson County Tigers''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 34-23 to Lumpkin County. While losing is never fun, Dawson County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Lumpkin County is ranked 86th).
Lumpkin County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cal Faulkner, who threw for 187 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Mason Sullens, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown.
Dawson County's defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Lambert and 7-2 North Hall (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 71.3% over those games). As for Lumpkin County, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Dawson County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lumpkin County will head out on the road to face off against West Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Hall will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
