The Eau Gallie Commodores struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Heritage Panthers had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Eau Gallie had to suffer through a rough 70-37 loss at the hands of Heritage. Eau Gallie has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Eau Gallie had strong showings from Dj Lewis, who scored eight points, and Giovanni Mcgriff, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him.
David Simpkins was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points for Heritage. The matchup was Simpkins' fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nate Jennings, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.
Eau Gallie bumped their record down to 2-5 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Heritage, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eau Gallie will challenge Satellite at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Satellite presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Eau Gallie in Florida (Satellite is ranked 146th, while Eau Gallie is ranked 519th). As for Heritage, they will head out on the road to face off against Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
