The East Robertson Indians will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the York Institute Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on November 24th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but East Robertson had no problem doing just that on Friday. They breezed by Smith County on the road to the tune of 49-20. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-6.
Isaiah Groves continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 254 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 84 receiving yards and a touchdown. Groves' longest reception was for an incredible 84 yards. Elijah Groves got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, York Institute put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 56-13 win over Hampton. York Institute pushed the score to 50-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Hampton cut but never quite recovered from.
York Institute's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Riylin Miller, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and also picked up 101 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Logan Pannell also helped out as he racked up 115 rushing yards.
East Robertson has yet to lose a match on the road this season, leaving them with a 12-1 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 2-10 White House-Heritage and 2-9 Trousdale County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 44.4% over those games). As for York Institute, their victory bumped their record up to 13-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the two teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. East Robertson commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.6 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like York Institute struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.3 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
