The biggest upset of the week belonged to Northgate, who took down 205th ranked Northgate, 20-19. Jesse Zelonka threw for 95 yards and one touchdown and ran for 141 yards in the win.
Wilkinsburg moved up to 530 from 560 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in WPIAL A Eastern. The Tigers were able to make the jump by losing to North Catholic 20-0.
Alex Smith was the best wideout in the league this week as Apollo Ridge beat the Flames. Smith racked up three receptions for 89 yards. Tre Tipton helped Apollo Ridge's passing attack out by catching one ball for six yards.
Vinny Piccolino was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 152 yards on 20 carries as Riverview defeated Northgate. Teammate Tyler Nigro added to the ground attack by rushing for 31 yards.
Apollo Ridge's Zelonka and Tipton have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading WPIAL A Eastern in both passing and receiving yards. Zelonka has thrown for 882 yards this season, while Tipton, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 29 catches for 485 yards. Zac Horner from West Shamokin leads the league in rushing with 453 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Springdale takes on TJ Wiley's team. At the moment, the Dynamos are in third, while the Flames are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when John Skiba's team and the Raiders face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Vikings comes in having scored 170 this season, while Riverview has scored 71. Apollo Ridge scored 20 points last week as it beat Northgate.
The Trojans extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Wilkinsburg, 20-0. The win marks fourth in a row for the North Catholic.
